Amitabh is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. Amitabh Bachchan was born in a Hindu family in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a well known poet in Hindi while his mother Tej Bachchan was originally from the Hindu Sikh family in Faisalabad (Pakistan).Although Amitabh's father's surname was Srivastava, he published the poem under the pseudonym Bachchan (Balasulabh).On entering the cinema, Amitabh started using the pseudonym as a surname and later the same family name became Bachchan. Amitabh is the eldest of Harivansh Rai Bachchan's two sons.His mother loved theater and was offered a role in a film. But they preferred to take care of the house instead. Bachchan studied at Allahabad's Knowledge Base and Boys' High School.He studied at Arts College at Sherwood College in Nainital, then obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Kerodimal College, Delhi University. Bachchan has received many awards during his career.Includes four National Awards and fourteen Filmfare Awards.Apart from acting, Bachchan has also worked as a background singer, filmmaker and TV show producer.He was elected to the Lok Sabha from 1984 to 1987.
